The Learning For Life Program offers support and scholarships to children and young people from disadvantaged families to assist with education related expenses. The Smith Family is an independent social enterprise providing services throughout Australia, and is committed to working in partnership to create a more caring and cohesive environment. Pre-requisites for entry into the Learning For Life Program are that children need to be in Years 1 - 10. The Smith Family also run peer reading support programs for children in Year 3 - 8.

Youth Support Co-ordinator Program - 4771 3648

Social and personal support for young people at risk of not transitioning into or completing their senior phase of learning. Youth Support Coordinators are based in the following schools: Kirwan State High School, Shalom Christian College, Thuringowa State High School, Townsville State High School, Northern Beaches State High School, Heatley Secondary College and The Flexible Learning Centre.

The Get Set For Work Program works with early school leavers and other young people disengaged from mainstream education, training or employment. The program is designed to increase self esteem, confidence, respect for self/others and overall life skills. The program encourages the concept of healthy choice making, positive thinking and responsible behaviour, such as increasing the enjoyment from life for the individual. Choice is a user friendly, non-threatening learning environment that encourages and supports individuals to step beyond their comfort zone and strive to achieve their goals and dreams. This includes positive progression in health, education, learning, training, employment, sport, recreation, adventure, travel, relationships, spiritual, physical and mental well being. The referral process is through Job Network Members, Centrelink, youth service providers, Youth Justice Service, word of mouth or self referral. Pre-requisites for access to this program are unemployment, young people at-risk or disengaged from education, training, families or society.

The JPET Program is a service for young people aged 15 - 21 years old who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. This program is also for young people facing multiple barriers including drug and alcohol misuse, sexual abuse, physical or mental abuse, domestic violence, behavioural problems, self harming behaviours, family issues, mental or health issues, problems with the law or learning difficulties. Young people can access this program through referrals from other youth services or through self referral.
