Sharehouse Accommodation

Sharehouse operates two shelters. The shelters accommodate young people with different needs.

Crisis Accommodation One shelter houses young people between the ages of 18 to 21 - the house is designed to accommodate up to 6 young people. The maximum length of stay is 3 months. The other Shelter houses young people between the ages of 15 to 17 - the house is designed to accommodate up to 5 young people. The maximum length of stay is 3 months.

Medium-Term Accommodation Sharehouse is funded to offer 'Medium-term' accommodation. Medium-term accommodation can be negotiated with the young person with a residency period averaging between 6 - 9 months. The length of stay is dependant on the individual needs of the young person.

What else can Sharehouse do?

While at Sharehouse, young people are encouraged to learn skills that will help them live independently. Sharehouse offers a number of support services to its residents to assist in this process. These include:
  • Advocacy,
  • Assistance in accessing independent housing,
  • Living skills development,
  • Referrals to other appropriate support services and
  • Crisis support

Sharehouse actively encourages all residents to be either engaged in education, employment, volunteering or looking for work.
